As a committee, CILIP Ireland will be looking towards the Northern Ireland Assembly Elections due on May 5th 2022. As with every NI Assembly election period, it is important to raise the profile of the library, knowledge management and information sector. It provides an excellent opportunity to engage with our politicians to see where libraries fit within their manifestos.

We all know about the great and fantastic work that we do daily, reaching out to and engaging with communities, crossing the digital poverty divide and improving lives through information and digital literacy. Now is our opportunity to get this message across to everyone else, including politicians and policy makers.

In the run-up to May 5th, we will be:

  • showcasing examples from libraries and information units about how we are making a difference

  • asking questions about what libraries mean to you

  • engaging with politicians and asking them to say what libraries mean to them, as well as where libraries and information units appear in their manifestos.

So please get involved! You can check back to our blog for further updates, or follow us on either Twitter or Facebook. Alternatively, you can check out our webpages on the CILIP website.
