BBC Northern Ireland and Libraries NI have announced their biggest ever Book Week, running from Monday 18th October to Sunday 24th October.

Now in its 6th year, Book Week is a "joint initiative that celebrates the pleasures and benefits of reading and the role that libraries play in community life. It will involve features and reports across the BBC’s local services and a wide range of library-based events – several of which will also be available online. And there will be a big emphasis on encouraging people to pay a visit to their local library on Love Your Library Day on Wednesday 20 October." [Libraries NI News 15 October 2021]

There are lots of activities happening during the week, with a different theme each day. Many well-known people are taking part in Book Week NI, including HRH The Duchess of Cornwell. Book Week Ambassadors are helping to lead big, community-wide conversations around reading, books and Book Week NI.

Virtual conversations will happen with poet William Sieghart, author Seamus O'Reilly, author Louise Nealon, author Niamh Campbell and book critic John Self. A 'Voices in the Library' poetry event will take place on 22 October. With many programmes on BBC Radio Ulster devoting time to Book Week NI, it'll be hard to pick what to listen to - download the schedule from BBC Radio Ulster. The BBC NI short story competition for children will also return for its 4th year and will be launched on 19th October. Remember to visit your local public library on Wednesday 20 October for 'Love Your Library' Day
