CILIP Ireland / LAI Annual Joint Conference - Media Literacy and Misinformation

Information Literacy can be defined as 'a set of skills and abilities which everyone needs to undertake information-related tasks; for instance, how to discover, access, interpret, analyse, manage, create, communicate, store and share information' (CILIP Definition of Information Literacy 2018, accessed 03/04/2021, https://infolit.org.uk/ILdefinitionCILIP2018.pdf ). However it can be much more than this, and we have all seen examples of this during the past number of years, and as a result information literacy and media literacy have come much more to the fore.

The afternoon session on Day 1 (15th April 2021) of the CILIP Ireland / LAI Annual Joint Conference covers this very topic; ' Media Literacy and Misinformation'. It seems very timely to hear from Dr. Ricardo Castllini da Silva from MediaAware, Alan Carbery from University College Cork, and Orna Young from FactCheckNI.

Information professionals have a vital role to play in educating about, enabling understanding about and supporting information literacy. This late afternoon session will provide skills and tips to help information professionals tackle this issue and develop a systematic approach to developing information and media literacy skills in the communities they support. It's not too late to book your place - visit the CILIP Ireland webpages or the Library Association of Ireland website to register.
