Green Libraries in Ireland

During CILIP's Green Libraries Week, CILIP Ireland and CONUL were pleased to organize a webinar showcasing environmentally friendly library initiatives across Ireland.

Four institutions, National Library of Ireland, University College Cork, Maynooth University and Libraries NI, shared with us four inspiring presentations, each showcasing unique approaches to sustainability in a library setting. The presentations highlighted both the small changes individuals can make and the significant impact of large-scale capital projects that have transformed libraries.

Brian O’Donnell, Deputy Director and Head of Estates at the National Library of Ireland led us through a tour of recent work in a continuing effort to address Climate Action at the National Library of Ireland.

Martin O’Driscoll, Academic Technology Coordinator and Chair of the Library Sustainability Group at University College Cork shared current initiatives from UCC Library and their efforts to reduce Digital Costs.

Tim Neeson, Head of Assets, from Libraries NI updated us on a capital project outlining how three libraries were refurbished and now are at EnerPHit standards.

Ciaran Quinn, Maynooth University discussed MU Library as a Green Library and the current initiatives to promote sustainability and climate justice through their actions in the Library.
