The next CILIP Ireland Twitter Chat will take place on Wednesday 26th October 2022, starting at 7pm.
Concerns regarding the inflation of goods and hikes especially regarding the price of fuel, coupled with the fear of impending recession is having a tangible effect on wider society. Some businesses and individuals have barely recovered from the impact of the pandemic, yet now we face a new crisis that will potentially impact libraries and public services extensively. Our twitter chat will consider potential impacts to public, academic and research library facilities, how we can prepare now and how will we react as the situation unfurls. CILIP in conjunction with Martin Lewis have published guidelines on setting up a warm space. You can access the guidelines via the News item on the CILIP website, and our twitter chat ties in with this.
To help you prepare and to get you thinking, please find the questions for the twitter chat below:
Do you have any personal observations regarding increased requests for assistance in the services your library?
Is there an increased pressure or requirement to become a ‘listening service’ for individuals finding themselves in new harsh situations?
Should there be development in library services to meet demand or do we expect diminished budgets and cost cutting?
Is now a good time to consider career plans for ourselves and the general population?
How can we increase our value as a place to help society and to promote the low cost services all different libraries provide, even as space to provide warmth and shelter?
How do we anticipate different libraries, public, academic, specialist and research facilities being affected differently, from your point of view?
You can follow our twitter chat by following us on twitter @CILIPIreland and using the hashtag #CILIPIreChat . We look forward to hearing from you on the evening!
